Simple Earflap Hat

Right Earflap
Turn hat upside down and pick up 17 [20, 23, 27, 30] sts for the right earflap along the cast on edge beginning at the marker. Work 9 [11, 11, 13, 13] rows in seed stitch.
Shape Earflap
Staying in pattern, dec 1 st on each end of flap every other row 3 [4, 5, 6, 6] times, then every row 3 [3, 3, 4, 5] times. On next RS row, bind off remaining 5 [6, 7, 7, 8] sts.
Left Earflap
Pick up 17 [20, 23, 27, 30] sts for the right earflap along the cast on edge beginning18 [20, 24, 26, 28] sts after the end of the right earflap. These sts are the back of the hat. Work the remainder of the left earflap as the right earflap.
